Jim Vincent Appointed Musical Director of Bude Metric Brass
Bude Metric Brass is delighted to announce the appointment of Jim Vincent as our new Musical Director, marking an exciting new chapter for the band.
Originally from Liverpool, Jim brings with him a wealth of experience as a performer, conductor and music educator. He studied at both the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, and during his studies was Solo Trombonist with Swinton Concert Brass Band. He also appeared as a guest performer with some of the best-known names in the brass band world, including Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Desford Colliery Band and Wingates Band.
Following his studies, Jim embarked on a successful career as a professional trombonist, performing with leading orchestras and big bands in the UK and abroad. His orchestral work has included performances with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Berliner Sinfonie Orchester, as well as work on a number of productions in London’s West End.
Alongside his performing career, Jim has always maintained a strong interest in conducting. While living and working in Germany, he was appointed Assistant Musical Director at the Musical Theatre in Potsdamer Platz, Berlin, adding further experience to an already varied musical career.
More recently, Jim has focused much of his work on music education. For nine years he served as Senior Specialist Brass Tutor for Bromley Youth Music Trust, helping to encourage and develop the next generation of brass musicians.
In 2025, Jim moved to Cornwall to work with the Cornwall Music Service Trust and quickly became involved in the county’s thriving brass band community. Since arriving in Cornwall, he has served as Musical Director of Bugle Silver Band, has appeared as a guest conductor with Camborne Town Band, and is also Resident Musical Director of St Austell Town Band.
Jim now brings his considerable experience, enthusiasm and musicianship to Bude Metric Brass.
Speaking about his appointment, Jim said he is excited and honoured to have been given the opportunity and is looking forward to working with the band.
For Bude Metric Brass, Jim’s appointment represents an exciting new chapter while building on the friendly and enjoyable approach to music-making that has been at the heart of the band since its formation in 2003.
We are delighted to welcome Jim to Bude Metric Brass and look forward to making plenty of great music together.
